Child Labour Remediation Programme in Cambodia

Child labour is prevalent in Cambodia and is only set to increase due to the global pandemic. As part of our global child labour remediation services, we have a team of experienced, accredited service providers remediating ongoing child labour cases discovered in the textile & apparel supply chain in Cambodia for our international clients.

Following our standard remediation process, we conduct an on-site rapid assessment within 72 hours when a suspected case of child labour is reported to us. This includes talking to all concerned parties and assessing the situation of the child; discussing solutions with parents, children and companies; defining possible remediation solutions based on the initial suggestions such as vocational schools, or other training options including a budget for enrolment and monthly living stipend; defining roles and responsibilities of brands, factory managers, children, parents, service providers and The Centre; and working with businesses to address child labour issues linked to young workers in hazardous work situations. Since 2018, The Centre has remediated more than 248 cases of child labour, and has experienced how a strong remediation process can create a much needed way out for children trapped in child labour, while also allowing factories to make systematic changes to their procedures to prevent child labour and strengthen their core business.
