Global Battery Alliance Insight Session on the DRC Child Labour Action Hub with The Centre and Save the Children

The Centre for Child Rights & Business’s Ines Kaempfer and Save the Children Deutschland’s Anne Reiner recently participated in an insight session hosted by Global Battery Alliance.

The session provided an overview of the Child Labour Action Hub, a child labour remediation and child protection system in cobalt artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Hub is set up as an association together with seven local CSOs to build a strong, local network of child rights practitioners in the Kolwezi area. It breaks the cycle of child labour by supporting the return of children to education, overseeing their development, and providing financial assistance until the child reaches working age. The Hub gives children and families a path towards a brighter future and ensures they do not return to the mines to work.

Supporting this work enables businesses to address child labour risks downstream in their supply chains related to the sourcing of cobalt. Watch a recording of the full insights session below and contact us to discuss opportunities for involvement in the Child Labour Action Hub in the DRC.
