Study Launch: The Role of the Dutch Finance Sector in Improving Children’s Rights | May 10

Save the Children and The Centre for Child Rights and Business invite you to the launch of the study ‘The role of the Dutch Finance Sector in Improving Children’s Rights in Cobalt Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining’, on May 10 at 14:00 CET.

Launched ahead of the Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour, the study encourages investors to use their leverage to combat child labour and related negative impacts. In a world where the transition to a green economy is urgent, the demand for cobalt will only increase. Moving away from cobalt is not an option, but improving the circumstances is.

Results are presented by Canaria Gaffar and Mark Robertson from The Centre for Child Rights and Business, who conducted the research. Relevant actors share their reflections and insights on the report from their work experiences in a panel discussion. The event concludes with a Q&A session, in which participants are invited to share their ideas on what the Dutch financial sector should and could do to improve children's rights.

The speakers include:

  • Laura Gerritsen, Fair Cobalt Alliance

  • Kees Gootjes, ABN AMRO Bank N.V.

  • Lauren Compere, Boston Common Asset Management

  • Ines Kaempfer, The Centre for Child Rights and Business

  • Hester Holtand, The Association of Investors for Sustainable Development (VBDO)
