The Centre for Child Rights and Business Joins the UN Global Compact

The Centre for Child Rights and Business has joined the UN Global Compact (UNGC), a global network of 12,000+ companies and 5,000 non-business signatories working towards a better world characterised by responsible business practices. 

UNGC is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative that calls on companies to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles including the rights of children and workers, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Commenting on The Centre becoming a member of UNGC, Mark Robertson, Senior Vice President – Outreach and Communications said: “We’re delighted to join the UNGC community and look forward to sharing insights, expertise on child rights and business practices that align with the sustainable development goals, in particular those related to children’s rights and worker wellbeing. Membership of the UNGC signals a commitment to sustainable business practices, and given that UNGC members span 160 countries, this is a great opportunity to leverage positive change for children and families in supply chains.”

Over the last decade, The Centre has worked with hundreds of international businesses to address child rights and worker wellbeing issues in supply chains, providing services and support on child labour identification, prevention and remediation, supply chain risk and impact assessments, family-friendly workplaces, young workers and other areas to protect and support vulnerable workers 

Our work helps companies and their suppliers to align their actions to SDG and meet ESG commitments as well as other frameworks, while also reaping the business benefits of operating a child-friendly operations. Membership of the UNGC offers exciting opportunities to engage more companies and civil society organisations in our work with businesses to create a better world for children.
