Social Needs Assessment and Supply Chain Mapping in India’s Toy Supply Chain

The Centre is undertaking  a supply chain mapping and a social needs assessment in the India supply chain of a Western toy producer. The project consists of two assessments targeting both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 level of the supply chain, including direct factory visits in Tier 2. 

The assessment scope has a strong gender focus, including maternity protection and breastfeeding; child labour and young workers; WASH, nutrition and access to health services, living conditions, transportation; the humane treatment of workers i.e.  non-discrimination, gender equality, harassment, coercion and abuse; and the welfare of children of workers (education, childcare, migrants children, left-behind children).

The assessment methodology includes desk research, factory self-assessment sheets, walkthrough/on-site observations and document review, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), surveys and supply chain mapping. 

So far The Centre has completed the Tier 1 assessment, and will soon begin Tier 2 factory visits. Once the assessment has concluded, The Centre will produce an in-depth report for our client and layout recommendations for addressing identified challenges. That will be followed by practical workshops with the client to mobilise action in the supply chain.
