“Work: No Child’s Business” Programme’s Achievements in Ending Child Labour in Vietnam

From 2020 to 2024, The Centre served as a strategic implementation partner of Work: No Child’s Business, an alliance led by Save the Children, UNICEF, and the Stop Child Labour Coalition across six countries and five sectors, with support from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The alliance collaborates with communities, schools, governments, civil society organisations, trade unions, and private sector actors to deliver sustainable solutions for children and their families.

The Centre's work focused on preventing child labour in Vietnam’s garment, textiles, and footwear sectors, with efforts to strengthen the capacity and awareness of key stakeholders, including ensuring youth get access to decent work opportunities.

Key to our approach was engaging a broad range of stakeholders within Vietnam’s private sector, including:

  • Securing top management commitment from factories

  • Gaining support from international brands

  • Collaborating with local civil society organisations, including provincial-level trade unions

Below is an overview of our key achievements and outcomes in Vietnam.

Work: No Child’s Business Symposium – The Hague, Oct 10

On October 10, 2024, The Centre’s Vietnam Senior Country Manager (for North Vietnam) presented key outcomes at the Work: No Child’s Business symposium in The Hague. He highlighted how international collaboration with private sector partners has improved supply chain transparency, increasing awareness of where child labour occurs, including among both tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers. Based on these findings, he urged businesses to look beyond their first-tier suppliers:
