RSPO Launches New Guidelines to Strengthen Child Rights in Palm Oil Production

Three guidelines on protecting children in palm oil production developed by The Centre and Proforest (with participation from stakeholders during consultations) for the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) have been officially launched. The three available guidelines target palm oil producers, small holders and group managers and downstream supply chain actors. A fourth guidelines also commissioned by RSPO and developed by the Centre focuses on auditors and certification bodies, and is due to be released soon.

These documents aim to help RSPO members and stakeholders identify and address the seven impact areas outlined by a 2016 UNICEF study conducted in Malaysia and Indonesia, and enhance the knowledge and capacity of members to foster engagement and collaboration with workers and surrounding communities, to mitigate the potential negative impacts on children in palm oil.

Please visit RSPO’s website here for more information and to access the guidelines.
