Seal Initiative Challenge Launched by The Centre for Child Rights and Business and Save the Children to Promote Responsible Tourism in Sri Lanka

We are thrilled to announce Round 5 of the Seal Challenge 2024—the first-ever challenge of its kind in the tourism sector! Earlier rounds this year focused on the tea industry, but now, following the launch of the Mother and Child-Friendly Seal for Responsible Business in travel and tourism on September 27, 2024, we’re inviting businesses across the tourism sector – hotels, guesthouses, tour operators, and other accommodation providers – to take the lead. This round challenges participants to create sustainable solutions that address the unique risks and challenges faced by women and children in the tourism supply chain.

The Centre for Child Rights and Business will select a few standout ideas from the submitted concept notes and provide support through contributions of either funding (ranging from LKR 500,000 to LKR 1 million) and/or technical expertise.

What is the Seal Challenge?

The Seal Challenge is an initiative led by The Centre for Child Rights and Business to encourage businesses connected to the tea industry – including plantation companies, tea smallholders, factories, brokers, exporters, brands and retailers – to develop or support innovative concept notes that address particular issues or challenges faced by children and families within their business ecosystem, particularly in estates or factories. “Winners” of the Seal Challenge receive either a small funding boost or technical expertise as an incentive to bring their proposed concepts to life.
