On February 11, The Centre for Child Rights and Business and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) hosted an official online side session at the Sixth Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour titled “Turning Commitment into Impact: Collaborative Pathways to Prevent and Remediate Child Labour in Supply Chains.”
The session focused on moving beyond discussions of what child labour is and why it must be addressed, to explore how companies, governments and partners can work together to prevent and remediate child labour in practice.
Bringing together speakers from government, business and organisations working directly in affected communities, the discussion highlighted practical, scalable and collaborative approaches to tackling child labour across high-risk supply chains. Drawing on experiences from metals and minerals supply chains, the session explored what works in real-world contexts and how collective action can help drive lasting change.
Particular attention was given to the less visible drivers of child labour in upstream, informal and smallholder contexts, such as artisanal and small-scale mining. Through case studies from copper and cobalt ASM communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, speakers shared insights on identifying risk factors, delivering effective remediation and supporting decent work opportunities for adults and youth.
