The Child Rights Action Hub (Action Hub Malaysia) is tackling child labour in Malaysia’s palm oil sector through a practical, private-sector-driven approach.

The Action Hub Malaysia works with local partners to build a reliable network of trained case managers, community focal points, and service providers to identify and remediate child labour cases.

Originally launched as part of the MY Voice project with support from Social Accountability International (SAI) and its partners and funding from the US Department of Labor, the Action Hub Malaysia is now fully funded through private sector contributions. Two international brands are currently financing the initiative as part of their human rights due diligence, with the Action Hub providing a proven platform to implement meaningful actions against child labour in high-risk supply chains. WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR A CHILD RIGHTS ACTION HUB IN MALAYSIA?

  • Child labour is still a serious issue in Malaysia’s palm oil industry, especially in places like Sabah. It's estimated that around 33,600 children aged 5 to 17 are working on palm oil plantations in that region

  • The sector employs nearly half a million workers, mostly migrants, and continues to face widespread issues including child labour, forced labour, and unsafe working conditions

  • There is an urgent need for coordinated, practical, and timely action to address and remediate child labour at scale

  • Building capacity to prevent and remediate child labour by establishing case managers, community focal points, and service providers

  • Knowledge sharing and best practices on preventing and remediating child labour

HOW TO GET INVOLVED?

  • Brands can select from different Child Rights Action Hub Participation Packages, each with varying levels of production site coverage (contact us to learn more)

  • Nominate suppliers in your supply chain to be included in Hub activities (or you can request your direct suppliers or vendors to share details of lower-tier suppliers; The Centre will then approach these facilities and invite them to participate in Action Hub activities)
