On July 1, 2025, The Centre for Child Rights and Business delivered its first in-depth Responsible Recruitment training for 12 Hasbro suppliers in Hai Phong City, Vietnam, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to support brands and suppliers in preventing child labour, forced labour and discrimination at work while strengthening recruitment practices and human resource management mechanisms.
The training brought together 25 HR, compliance and management representatives from Hasbro’s local suppliers, along with 10 members of Hasbro’s global team from the U.S., China, Hong Kong and Vietnam to discuss local laws, international standards and clients’ code of conduct while also addressing challenges facing suppliers in Vietnam context. While The Centre’s Vietnam team has delivered numerous training sessions on child labour prevention and remediation (CLPR) and child labour remediation, this session marked the first time we delivered a technically in-depth training with additional focus on forced labour and discrimination at work – two of the most challenging and often overlooked dimensions of responsible recruitment.
What made this training particularly impactful was its grounding in the real-world findings of a recent needs assessment conducted across the 12 participating factories. This enabled us to design a session filled with practical examples, realistic scenarios and highly targeted recommendations. The result: high engagement, honest discussions and actionable solutions. Every question raised by factory representatives, no matter how complex, was addressed with practical, context-appropriate guidance from our facilitators.
Besides the knowledge learnt from The Centre’s trainers on how to enhance the internal management system to ensure responsible recruitment, it is important for factory management like us to learn how to practically improve the supervision of our business partners, e.g. subcontractors, service providers, especially labour agents. This is an eye-opening training for me when we discussed very deeply about discrimination and forced labour risks. I believe we will have a lot more to discuss during the coming one-to-one support, which is the follow-up and hands-on support after the training,” said a manager of a Hasbro supplier at the training.
“I believe The Centre’s expertise and experience sharing at the training have brought a clear explanation to our suppliers on child labour, forced labour and discrimination topics and what a good system looks like to ensure responsible recruitment at their workplace. Through this programme, Hasbro team’s capacity is also enhanced to provide practical support to our suppliers,” said a Hasbro staff member at the training.
This training is just the beginning. Over the next 1.5 months, The Centre will provide one-on-one follow-up support to each of the 12 factories, helping them apply what they’ve learned and make concrete improvements. Our goal is to ensure the knowledge gained leads to real, lasting change on the ground.
