Piloting Implementation of Child Protection Manual at Palm Oil Plantations in Indonesia

As part of efforts to tackle child labour and advance child rights in the palm oil sector, agribusiness group Wilmar International developed a Child Protection Manual with support from BSR and input from The Centre.

The Centre has been selected by Wilmar International and BSR to test the manual’s practical applicability with a selected Wilmar supplier in Indonesia. Alongside testing implementation, this pilot also aims to build supplier capacity to address child protection issues in selected palm oil estates, and subsequently share key lessons learned with Wilmar’s supplier base.

Upon completion of the pilot, learnings will be synthesised into a final report, and the manual will be revised and updated accordingly with workshops will be organised for suppliers.

This pilot is an important opportunity to share lessons learned within the Indonesian palm oil industries with a view to expand learnings across other sectors. The Centre looks forward to playing a pivotal role in this pilot, and contributing towards the advancement of child rights in the palm oil sector.
