ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a newly created role to support, coordinate and implement project activities on the ground, including communication with all project partners and stakeholders, for a USDOL grant-funded project in Malaysia to combat child labour and forced labour in the apparel and palm oil industries.
The position is a full-time engagement and must be based in Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The selected candidate will support, coordinate, and implement activities related to MY Voice project. MY Voice project is a USDOL-funded multiyear project to combat child labour and forced labour in the production of Malaysian palm oil and garments.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
The position includes but is not limited to the following specific tasks:
Manage, cooperate, and execute tasks related to this project to ensure smooth and timelyimplementation, including:
Prepare, update, and follow workplans
Liaise with partners and stakeholders
Submit project deliverables and reports in a timely manner
Contribute to the creation and sharing of knowledge within the project and The Centre
Escalate challenges to the supervisor in a timely manner and propose solutions andalternative strategies to achieve results
Conduct child labor and forced labor risk assessment in different supply chain tiers
Support the development and pilot of remediation model(s) and tools to address child labor and forced labor in the apparel and palm oil industry.
Prepare, coordinate, and conduct trainings and awareness raising campaigns with different stakeholdersboth in person and online.
Conduct desk research as well as monitoring and evaluation reports by summarizing and documentingresults, lessons learned and good practices from the implementation of the project.
Establish and maintain network with project partners and local stakeholders, including local governmental agencies, sectoral associations, international and national NGOs, government entities, educationalinstitutions and commercial service providers and trainers etc.
Other tasks as assigned by The Centre such as data analysis, reporting, participating, and representing TheCentre in events, conferences, meetings as decided in cooperation with the Director of Services &Products, Asia.
Regular calls with The Centre’s colleagues in other offices, partners of MY Voice project, and regular check-in with the Director of Services & Products, Asia.
Require to travel from time to time (mostly domestic).
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the field of human rights due diligence, child rights (in particularchild labor), social compliance, with audits/assessments experience and certification as auditor (e.g.FLA/SAI etc. certified auditor) a plus
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree reflecting expertise in areas relevant to this project, such as socialsciences, law, public policy, sociology.
Strong skills and experience in project management (incl. meeting deadlines, achieving targets, budget setting and monitoring, etc).
Strong skills in research tools development, report writing, and policy and guidelines development.
Experiences relating to Malaysia’s apparel/palm oil industry strongly preferred.
Strong and proven skills as a trainer and facilitator.
Good command of both verbal and written English and Bahasa Malaysia, knowledge in otherSoutheast Asian languages a plus.
Self-motivated, independents, pro-active, and has team-work spirit.
