This infographic shares an update on the progress made by The Hub for Child Labour Prevention and Remediation in cobalt artisanal mining (ASM) in the DRC until November 2024. These outcomes are the result of the collective efforts of businesses, organisations, and partners who believe in the importance of investing in children’s futures and supporting vulnerable families in ASM communities.
With this support, we’ve been able to expand the programme, providing long-term support to more children, helping siblings access education, and ensuring children have the means to return to school or vocational training. While there is still so much to do, we’re encouraged by the 43 children who’ve joined the programme since 2023 and the partnerships that are growing along the way.
As we look to the future, we hope to build on this foundation. Next year, we aim to launch an apprenticeship programme for young workers to give them access to decent work, welcome more children into the programme, train additional case managers to provide personalised support, and collaborate with more actors across the cobalt supply chain. Achieving a just transition that benefits both children and their communities will require continued collaboration and shared commitment from everyone involved.
We look forward to continuing this journey with businesses and partners who share our vision for a better future for children and communities. Please contact us to find out how you can get involved.
